GOV. POLIS SIGNS DAYLIGHT SAVING BILL, BUT CHANGE WON'T HAPPEN SOON
Gov. Jared Polis Thursday signed HB22-1297, the "Daylight Saving Year Around" bill into law. The bill keeps Colorado locked in daylight saving time, but only if a federal law is enacted to allow states the option, and at least four other states in the Mountain Time Zone also enact daylight saving year around legislation. To date, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved a measure in the spring to lock the nation’s clocks in at daylight saving time. An identical measure has been introduced in the House of Representatives, but no action has been taken. Also Montana, Wyoming and Utah have all adopted lock-the-clock bills for permanent daylight saving. Arizona, New Mexico or southern Idaho would need to also adopt daylight saving legislation.

125TH STRAWBERRY DAYS RETURN IN FULL FORCE
The pandemic completely shut down Strawberry Days in 2020 and last year, there was only a very limited "Berry Special Weekend" with a few events in downtown Glenwood Springs. This year, one of the longest-running community festivals in Colorado, returns with an expanded version for the 125th edition, and there will be a different venue. Strawberry Days will be June 17-19 and will be held at Two Rivers Park instead of the traditional location, Sayre Park on Grand Avenue. The change to Two Rivers Park also brings a change in the parade route for the Hometown Parade, featuring the theme of "125 Years of Awesomeness." The parade will begin at Glenwood Springs High School, then proceed down Pitkin Avenue before circling around the Garfield County Courthouse, to Seventh Street and proceeding to an end near the Roaring Fork bikepath leading to Two Rivers Park.

WIND AND SNOW CAUSE DIFFICULTY FOR HIKERS
Everyone knows it has been a very windy spring and now hikers are facing the aftermath, trails blocked by downed trees. Shelly Grail, recreation manager for the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service, notes that downfall is the norm for this time of the year, “...but this year we’re maybe seeing more (downfall) than usual.” The Aspen-Sopris Ranger District’s seasonal workers on the trails and wilderness crews started work last week and have already cleared parts of the trails to American Lake, Cathedral Lake, Thomas Lakes, East Maroon and Crater Lake. The trail clearing extends only to the snowline, however. Hikers are advised there still is snow at the 9,000-10,000-foot level.
