OUTDOOR RETAILER CANCELS JUNE TRADE SHOW IN DENVER

 
 
 

Emerald Expositions announced Thursday that it was canceling the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2020 scheduled for June 23-25 at the Colorado Convention Center. It is the country's premier trade show for the outdoor recreation industry which was moved to Denver in 2017 from its longtime run in Salt Lake City.

AFTER DEVASTATING FIRE, DENVER'S BOYER'S COFFEE VOWS TO BUILD BACK

 
 
 

A fire Thursday completely destroyed the Boyer's Coffee roasting plant and café at 7295 Washington Street in Adams County. No one was in the building and no firefighters were injured. Boyer's Coffee is owned by brothers Douglass and Jason Barrow and has been a staple in Denver since 1965, serving more than 1,400 stores and selling Rockies Roast at Coors Field. The Barrow brothers vowed to return to business, saying, "while our building burned yesterday, our business did not."

CRUDE OIL ZOOMS UP 25 PERCENT

 
 
 

U.S. crude oil closed up $5.01 Thursday at $25.32 a barrel, up 25 percent, its biggest one-day percentage increase on record, going back to 1983. Brent crude, the global price indicator, rose $5.20, or 21 percent, to close at $29.94, which also was its best one-day ever in data going back to 1988. The price fluctuated all day, first up 35 percent on news from President Trump that Russia and Saudi Arabia agreed to cut production; then turned lower after the Kremlin denied talking to the Saudis; then stabilizing after the Saudi officials said they would consider cuts.

PITCO RELIEF FUND STARTS DISTRIBUTION

 
 
 

Pitkin County Health and Human Services has a fund of $1.3 million designated for providing financial relief to county residents. Nan Sundeen, director of Health and Human Services, began distribution Thursday, allocating $60,417 to 66 of the some 1,000 applicants for the funds. The county says the relief money is available to those with needs such as rental/mortgage assistance, utility assistance, emergency food assistance, household supplies, and transportation assistance. CITY OF GLENWOOD SPRINGS: DON'T GO TO THE LANDFILL

 
 
 

The Glenwood Springs South Canyon Landfill will no longer accept yard waste or electronic recycling and because it has been overrun with traffic recently, the city of Glenwood Springs is asking residents not to make a trip to the landfill unless absolutely necessary. The landfill will still accept waste from trash haulers, construction waste, household trash and recycling. The city has postponed its annual free trash and brush spring cleaning but the city requests that residents just hold on to brush, leaves and other yard debris.

CPW: HUNTING, FISHING SEASONS ARE OPEN, YOU STILL NEED A LICENSE

 
 
 

Colorado Parks and Wildlife issued a statement to counter the increasing number of messages on social media saying things like the hunting and fishing seasons were canceled. CPW says hunting and fishing seasons are open, but reminds people they still need a license. Also, state parks are open, but there still is an entrance fee. The national parks that are still open have waived visitor fees. Although CPW offices and visitor centers are closed, information is still available at: cpw.state.co.us.

SAN MIGUEL COUNTY TESTING SHOWS LARGE MAJORITY OF NEGATIVE RESULTS

 
 
 

San Miguel County has been administering countywide, voluntary, free c19 antibody blood tests for COVID-19, and this week, officials released the first round of results. Out of 986 tests, about 97 percent, or 955 people, tested negative. Twenty-three (23) people were "indeterminate" which officials consider negative, although they have an increased chance of testing positive when they are tested again after 14 days. One percent, or eight people tested positive. Those with indeterminate testing status were notified by public health officials and were told to self-isolate for 14 days.

IRON HORSE BICYCLE CLASSIC POSTPONED

 
 
 

For 48 years, Memorial Day signaled the beginning of summer in Durango with the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. The 47-mile bicycle road race originated to see whether a cyclist could beat a locomotive of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on its route from Durango to Silverton. IHBC organizers announced Thursday that the 2020 Iron Horse Classic was postponed. There was no date identified for the 2020 race, which was scheduled for May 22-24 this year.

TOWN OF VAIL, CPW WORK TO FENCE BIGHORN SHEEP OFF ROADS

 
 
 

Following the loss of three bighorn sheep in recent months due to vehicle collisions on Interstate 70 in East Vail and the continued danger to motorists and wildlife, the town of Vail is working with Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife to install temporary fencing along the north side of the North Frontage Road in an attempt to keep the sheep from accessing any roadway. The fencing will run from the East Vail Interchange along the north side of the North Frontage Road west to Katsos Road. The town is in the process of obtaining the relevant permitting to install the 8-feet tall temporary fence within the right-of-way.
