FRONTIER FLIGHT ATTENDANTS REACH DEAL WITH AIRLINE

Frontier Airlines flight attendants reached a tentative contract with the Denver-based budget carrier Wednesday, calling off a demonstration by attendants from 20 airlines in town for a union convention. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA said the deal includes significant pay increases, schedule flexibility and quality-of-life improvements and other benefits but declined to release details until union representatives review the details at a March 28 meeting. The new deal replaces a 2011 agreement put in place after the former owner of the airline declared bankruptcy and pushed for concessions.

CITY OF DENVER ENFORCES ITS SHORT-TERM RENTAL POLICY

The city of Denver put regulations for short-term rentals into effect in 2017. To operate a short-term rental in Denver, a licensee must show the property is their primary residence and "usual place of return." The Denver Excise and Licenses department revoked a license for the first time this week, pulling the license of Garth Yettick for his Marion Manor, ruling Yettick was not living at the Country Club home as required. The short-term rental at 410 Marion St. was advertised as a $5 million Country Club Estate that could house 15 people. Neighbors complained that Yettick did not live there and the short-term rental had turned into the equivalent of a fraternity party house.

DISNEY COMPLETES $71.3 BILLION DEAL FOR 21ST CENTURY FOX ASSETS

Walt Disney Co. Tuesday closed its $71.3 billion acquisition of the major entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox, which now gives Disney control of Fox's movie and television production studios, as well as its FX cable network, Fox Searchlight label and National Geographic properties. It is the biggest acquisition in Disney's history and aids Disney in its efforts to build streaming and other direct-to-consumer services. Included in the deal is Disney's assumption of the majority control of streaming service Hulu.

CASTLE CREEK BRIDGE DETOUR: 3 DAYS IN MAY

The city of Aspen Wednesday announced that there will be a detour for outbound traffic from Aspen on Highway 82 for three days in May as another drain needs to be installed on the Castle Creek Bridge and repaving of a pothole caused by the water damage is required. To make the repairs, outbound traffic will be diverted around the bridge using Sixth Street and Power Plant Road. Inbound traffic will continue to use the bridge.

CARBONDALE TIGHTENS RULES FOR TRASH, SELECTS SINGLE HAULER

The Carbondale Board of Trustees this week passed an ordinance tightening rules on trash, including restricting the placement of trash cans out to the day of pick up and requiring any household with three violations of the town's trash storage code to get a bear-proof container. The board also selected Mountain Waste & Recycling Inc. as a single hauler for most of the residential areas in town. The new service will begin in September with a trash service fee added to the water service bill.

JEFF ROBBINS NAMED COGCC DIRECTOR

Dan Gibbs, the executive director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, named Jeff Robbins the new executive director of the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission. Robbins replaces Julie Murphy, who had been on maternity leave. Murphy is now the assistant director for minerals and energy at the Department of Natural Resources. Robbins had served as county attorney in La Plata County and Archuleta County and also served on a 2014 state task force addressing state and local regulation of oil and gas operations.

ANOTHER STORM HEADED INTO SW COLORADO

Spring arrived and the next day, the National Weather Service in Grand Junction issued a Winter Storm Warning for the San Juan Mountains, above 8,500 feet elevation, including Silverton and Rico, from 6 a.m. today to 6 a.m. Friday. The storm warning calls for 8 to 16 inches of new snow. Less than one inch of snow is expected at lower elevations, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-40s. Motorists are advised that U.S. Highway 550 over Red Mountain Pass remains closed and travel on Lizard Head Pass is expected to be difficult with 5 to 8 inches of snow forecast.

DILLON AMPHITHEATER TO GET $627,000 SOUND SYSTEM

Two years ago, the town of Dillon undertook a major renovation of the Dillon Amphitheater, pumping nearly $10 million into the project that revamped the stage, constructed a new concessions building, added four-times the number of bathrooms on-site, added a green room and changing rooms. Tuesday, the Dillon Town Council voted to allocate $626,900 for a new sound system at the venue. The town is partnering with Brown Note Productions on the sound system. Brown Note, based in Thornton, has worked with Red Rocks and Fiddler's Green amphitheaters.

BREXIT, THE NEXT ROUND, AN EXTENSION REQUEST

British Prime Minister Theresa May Tuesday asked the European Union to delay Britain’s departure from the EU until June 30. The leaders of the European Union's 27 member nations will discuss the proposed delay at a two-day summit meeting beginning Thursday. Officials of the EU have already said they may not agree on any delay until next week, meaning the decision would come only days before Britain's current scheduled exit from the bloc on March 29. The extension of the deadline would have to be approved by every one of the 27 member nations. The EU leaders have expressed frustration with the process and have demanded to know the purpose of any extension. Prime Minister May now appears likely to give Parliament another chance to create a solution to leave the EU but the outcome is not clear. Mrs. May's government is in a weak position and there could be a general election and any deal that is formulated could lead to another election.
