EPIC PASS ROLLS OUT SINGLE DAY OPTIONS

 
 
 

Vail Resorts rolled out its "Epic for Everyone" program Tuesday for the 2019-2020 season, which offers a one-day pass option for passholders. Customers will have options, one day to seven days to full season, whether or not to add holiday access. For passholders who opt for more than four days, they will gain access to Telluride, Sun Valley, Snowbasin and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, which are not available to single-day holders. METRO DENVER HOME PRICES DROP IN FEBRUARY

 
 
 

For the first time in seven years, median home prices in metro Denver went down on a year-over-year basis, according to a monthly update from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors. The median price of a single-family home sold in February was $430,100, down 2.18 percent from February 2018. The median price of a condominium in metro Denver declined 2.3 percent to $297,000 over the same period.

BORDER OFFICERS UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE, 76,000 CROSSING PER MONTH

 
 
 

More than 76,000 migrants crossed the southwest border without authorization in February, an 11-year high. In announcing the new data for Feb., Kevin V. McAleenan, commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, said to reporters, "The system is well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point." The increased numbers have come from families, not individuals crossing. At least 70 groups of 100 or more people have turned themselves in at Border Patrol stations which are typically staffed only by a handful of agents.

ASPEN VOTERS PASS THE LIFT ONE PROPOSAL BY VERY SLIM MARGIN

 
 
 

The Lift One corridor plan was approved in Aspen's Tuesday election by a vote of 1,555 in favor and 1,529 against, a margin of 50.4 percent to 49.6 percent. The Lift One corridor plan encompasses more than 320,000 square feet of commercial space, which includes the 107,000-square-foot timeshare project known as the Lift One Lodge and a 64,000-square-foot luxury hotel called the Gorsuch Haus.

ASPEN VOTE: MESIROW, RICHARDS ON COUNCIL; RUNOFF FOR MAYOR

 
 
 

Aspen voters elected Rachel Richards and Skippy Mesirow to City Council seats in Tuesday's election, with Richards garnering 1,729 votes and Mesirow receiving 1,433 votes, both above the 1,228 votes needed to avoid a runoff. There will be a runoff in the election for mayor, with Ann Mullins facing Torre in the April runoff. Torre received 1,281 votes and Mullins had 940, with neither reaching the threshold of 1,572 votes to avoid a runoff. The runoff election will be April 2.

POWDERHORN: NEW WATER AGREEMENT FOR SNOWMAKING

 
 
 

This year has been a banner year for snow fall at Powderhorn Mountain Resort, but with last season's lack of snow a recent memory, Powderhorn has signed a new 40-year water lease agreement with the city of Grand Junction that calls for the city to provide 140 acre-feet of water to the resort from the city's Anderson Reservoir No. 2. The water will be piped directly from the resort via an 11,500-foot pipeline to feed the distribution system for snowmaking on the mountain. Powderhorn will pay an estimated $23,500 per year for the city's water.

DURANGO OK'S SIGN CODE, CAMPING RULES

 
 
 

The Durango City Council Tuesday approved the sign code that was rewritten by city staff to bring it into compliance with a 2015 Supreme Court ruling that said signs could not be regulated based on what is on them, but can be regulated based on time, place and manner. The new code continues a ban on so-called sandwich-board signs. Council also approved a new camping rule that allows people to shelter in a location identified by designated officials from one hour before sunset to one hour after sunrise.

TOUGH DUTY TRYING TO TRAVEL ON I-70 YESTERDAY

 
 
 

Early Tuesday, the Colorado Department of Transportation began avalanche mitigation work in areas around the Western Slope, including at the Bethel slide path between the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels and Herman Gulch, at the Disney slide path above Berthoud Pass at US 40 and at Ten Mile Canyon near Copper Mountain. CDOT used helicopter dropped explosives to trigger slides, but got more than expected when one slide near Herman Gulch brought down 15 feet of snow on to the westbound lane of Interstate 70 and 8 feet on the eastbound lane. It was the biggest slide in that area in 30 years and closed I-70 between Silverthorne and Georgetown until early evening Tuesday.
